Is there "direct admission" in MBBS?
Not outside counselling. Since NEET became mandatory, management and NRI quota seats in private and deemed colleges are also allotted through official counselling, on NEET merit. What families call "direct admission" today usually means these quota seats — and choosing them well is where good counselling makes the difference.
Who counsels which seats
Two sets of counselling run side by side each year. Most students should register for both.

Management and NRI quota, explained
Private and deemed medical colleges keep part of their seats as management quota, and some as NRI quota. The fees are higher than government seats, but the seats are allotted the same way: you register in the right counselling, fill choices, and are allotted on your NEET rank.
- NRI quota needs documents — usually the sponsor's passport, visa or residence proof, an embassy certificate and a relationship affidavit. States differ, so we check the list before you apply.
- Each state publishes its own fee structure for private colleges. We share the official figure for every college on your list.
- You pay the college or the counselling authority directly — by bank transfer or demand draft — against an official receipt.
The counselling rounds
Registration
Register on the MCC portal and/or your state portal and pay the fee. Deemed universities also ask for a refundable security deposit.
Choice filling & locking
List colleges in your order of preference. A good list mixes safe, realistic and ambitious options — the order matters more than the length.
Round 1
Seats are allotted. You can join, or join and opt for an upgrade in the next round.
Round 2
New choices and upgrades. The rules on keeping, resigning or losing a seat — and your deposit — tighten from here.
Round 3 / Mop-up
Remaining seats. This is often where management and NRI quota seats open up.
Stray vacancy round & reporting
The last vacant seats. Then you report to the college with your original documents within the deadline.

- Class 10 certificate (date of birth)
- Class 12 marksheet and pass certificate
- Photo ID — Aadhaar, passport or PAN
- Category / EWS certificate, if claimed
- Domicile certificate for state quota
- Passport-size photographs
- NRI documents, for NRI quota
How to choose a medical college
Two colleges with the same fees can give you very different training. Before a college goes on your list, we check:
- NMC recognition — the college and its seat intake must be listed by the National Medical Commission.
- Patient load — a busy attached hospital is what turns a student into a doctor.
- The full fee — tuition plus hostel, mess, and any one-time or "development" charges.
- Bond and stipend — some states require service after graduation; internship stipends vary widely.
- Location and safety — distance from home, hostel conditions and the campus itself.
